Dental Surgery Procedures

At Spruce Grove Alberta, our dental surgeons are expertly trained and highly skilled in surgical procedures involving your mouth, teeth, and jaw. We provide dental surgery procedures to patients in Spruce Grove Alberta and the neighbouring Stony Plain and Parkland County areas to correct a variety of issues, and our dentists and oral surgeons work together to deliver the best treatment plan for each individual case.

Some of the surgical procedures that our oral surgeons handle at Garden Dental & Orthodontics include:

Diseased and impacted teeth removal:

We administer in-office anaesthesia, including general anaesthesia and intravenous (IV) sedation, and remove damaged and impacted teeth.

Wisdom tooth removal:

Impacted wisdom teeth can cause pain, swelling, infection of the surrounding soft tissue, and permanent damage to surrounding teeth, gums, and bone.

Placing dental implants:

Our surgeons work in collaboration with restorative or cosmetic dentists to reconstruct bone in areas that require bone grafting for implant placement. In some cases, surgeons can also reconstruct gum tissue around the implant to create a more natural and aesthetic look.

Improve the fit of dentures:

When you have poorly fitting dentures due to jaw irregularities, we can perform bone grafts to fix these irregularities.

Unproportional jaw growth:

In some cases, the upper or lower jaw does not grow in the same proportion as its counterpart, resulting in difficulty breathing, eating, swallowing, and talking. In severe cases, we can create a more balanced and functional jaw structure.

Facial infections:

Infections in the jaw, neck, or face may require a surgeon to drain the area and extract any teeth that contributed to the infection or are in the area that got affected.

Treating facial trauma:

We repair a wide range of facial-related trauma, including setting fractured jaw and facial bones, facial skin lacerations, reconnecting severed nerves, and facial injuries involving the cheek and nasal bones, oral tissues, eye sockets, jaws, and the forehead.

Alleviating facial pain:

We diagnose and address facial pain disorders such as temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder.

Reconstructive and cosmetic surgery:

We can correct facial soft tissue, facial bone, and jaw-related problems arising from the removal of cysts/tumours or trauma. These corrective surgeries are intended to restore shape and function to the maxillofacial area, and typically involve using bone, skin, nerves, and tissues from other parts of the body for the face and jaw reconstruction.

Corrective jaw surgery (orthognathic):

We correct minor and major dental and skeletal jaw irregularities to improve speaking, chewing, and breathing. This procedure is usually done in collaboration with an orthodontist, when surgical reconstruction and realignment of the upper and lower jaws into the right dental/facial association is necessary to improve facial appearance and biting function.

Correct birth defects (congenital):

Our surgeons also correct defects of the skill and face that are apparent from birth, such as cleft palate and cleft lip.

Treatment for obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA):

Non-surgical treatments using oral appliances are usually enough to manage sleep apnoea. But if these appliances prove to be ineffective, our surgeons can perform surgical procedures to correct the apnoea, including:

  • Maxillomandibular advancement – moving both jaws forward
  • Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty – shortening and softening the soft palate
  • Genioglossus advancement – tightening the front tongue tendon to reduce tongue displacement

We also offer emergency oral surgery procedures, though most surgeries are usually recommended by our general dentists. All procedures are handles with professional care and the utmost concern for your comfort and wellbeing.
